Joliet, IL, June 15, 2009 - Berryman Transfer and Storage Co Inc., headquartered in Joliet since 1896, received a “Green Project” award for meeting the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) 2005 target for energy savings after installing an Enreco USA lighting system which provides a reduction in lighting power density by at least 50 Percent.

Dave Carlson, President of Berryman Transfer, liked the idea of improved lighting for his employees while greening the environment.  By helping utilities reduce their carbon footprint, the project will have the same effect on the environment as planting 26 acres of trees, removing 20 cars from the road, and saving over 12,000 gallons of gasoline. The company will also cut its energy bills in half.

"Energy efficient lighting projects are the best Green investment a business can make, an extremely important factor in the current economy" said Ben O’Dell, President of Enreco USA who presented the award. “According to the Energy Cost Savings Council, the average energy efficient lighting project pays for itself in less than two and a half years, and the savings continue for years to come.”

These projects may generate even more savings since most utilities offer significant rebates to their customers as incentives, and the Federal government offers a sizeable tax deduction through the EPAct 2005 program.  Enreco USA, based in Shorewood, completes all the paperwork for its customers to help them take advantage of the available incentives.

Utility rebates for 2009 began on June 1st in the Will County region, and are only available while funds last.  By completing its lighting project now, Berryman Transfer was able to achieve some extra savings on a very worthwhile project.
